Designer Biana Chang has some lovely typography pieces she created from paper.
Using a hand-plotter she cuts through multiple sheets to create dimensional layered works. The white paper impacts the final designs and results in beautiful sculpted typography.

Sustainable Typography and More

Moss graffiti has been around for a while, but one artist who's work really embodies it is Anna Garforth. Her experimentation's in typography has resulted in an array of unique and beautiful pieces, and the body of work is both natural and exploratory. Whether she is painting on a wall with moss, wrapping a fence in masking tape or reusing materials to create public art you will be inspired by the creativity she puts into each piece. This is truly sustainable art.

Typographic Illusions

Really impressed with this installation by the young design student Joseph Egan out of London. By looking at the relationship between graphic design and architecture they discovered the process of anamorphosis (a distorted projection or perspective requiring the viewer to use special devices to reconstitute an image.)  Initially inspired by the fine artist Felice Varini (who in himself does wonderful work) his team created a typographic installation within a building on the campus of Chelsea College of Art & Design.

"Our work encourages the viewer to walk into and around typography, an immersive experience considering that their usual relationship with type would normally be realised on a two dimensional surface be it printed or computerised. Being able to appreciate it physically painted onto walls of buildings which the viewers are used to interacting with every day draws attention to the beauty of typography and at same time highlighting the architectural forms that it adorns."

Honoring Doyald Young

Doyald Young was a master typographer whose beautiful typefaces are rooted in 16th- and 17th-century. As a teacher for 30 years at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, he didn't just teach the formal conventions or aesthetic theories of type, but he also based his teaching on the satisfaction found in perfecting the craft.
His books are definitely worth owning if your a designer.

I was so honored to hear Mr. Young speak on several occasions a true legend of design. RIP Mr. Young
