Sensible & Spirited is what the Pantone Fashion Color Report is for Fall 2011. It's nice that the colors are on the fresher side of the color wheel. Designers are utilizing texture and contrast and color for as well.

“Designers take a painterly approach to fall 2011 by artfully combining bright colors with staple neutrals, reminiscent of how an artist would construct a stunning work of art,” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute. “Much like a painter's masterpiece, there is a certain romance to this season's palette.”

I love each of the designers inspirations for color too! Read more about the designers here.

Bamboo- Gorgeous cypress trees covered in Spanish moss, weather-worn masonry, filtered sunlight and a tension between old- and new-fashioned
Honeysuckle- The cityscape
Emberglow- Menswear fabrics with a feminine twist – this collection is about everyday elegance
Phlox- An exhibit at the National Museum of the American Indian called Infinity of Nations
Cedar- A love story between a Russian princess and a British punk boy and their nomadic travels across the English countryside
Deep Teal- Upstate New York, which is surrounded by exotic forms of nature: solid colors are juxtaposed with unexpected animal skins, microscopic skin prints and distorted takes on classic animal prints
Coffee Liquéur- Metals & textures in fabrics and bright colors combined with Black, Dark Brown, Gray and neutral
Nougat- Baroque paintings, particularly the muses of Painting and Poetry by Francesco Furini (1624)
Orchid Hush- Warm animal colors contrasted with cool industrial metal and a punctuation of vivid color
Quarry- The unexpected color combinations found in Barnett Newman paintings – the feeling is chic, modern and graphic

Well honeysuckle it is. Who doesn't love pink! It calms you and makes you think of happy things, perfect for the times we find ourselves in now. Honeysuckle is also encouraging and uplifting.
“In times of stress, we need something to lift our spirits. Honeysuckle is a captivating, stimulating color that gets the adrenaline going – perfect to ward off the blues,” explains Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute®. “Honeysuckle derives its positive qualities from a powerful bond to its mother color red, the most physical, viscerally alive hue in the spectrum.”

These gals are popping up everywhere lately for me. I know the trend started a few years ago, but I predict that we will be seeing more of these little folk wonders in the up coming year.

One of the most notable of Russian crafts is that of the Matryoshka, or nesting doll principle. Famously perfected by Fabergé in the late 1800’s the craft lives on today with Russian Designer Yar Rassadin whose Pantone Matryoshka collection takes inspiration from both the Pantone color matching system and a minimalist UFO style, making for a uniquely modern twist on the nearly 120 year old art form.

Maybe make some your self here.

I want to make paper ones!

The people over at Purpose graphic design in the UK, do awesome work. Here's sweet little Christmas promo they designed for a printing client of theirs.

In Purpose's own words:

"For their first Christmas, newly established printers Greenford Printing
wanted a memorable way to promote their business and at the same
time wish their valued clients a 'Merry Christmas and Happy New Year'.

By building on the familiar language of colour specification, Pantone
swatches initiated the main theme for our concept. ‘Panettone’ created
a colourful twist on the traditional Italian Christmas cake.

The Panettone boxes arrive as a set of 5, featuring special dates
from Christmas Eve to New Years Day, each one representing a
different pantone colour.

A big hit in the 2007 McNaughton Review, the design was Joint Winner
in the Direct/Promotional category and Highly Commended in Packaging."
