2. Today, Bulletstorm is 33% off Amazon.

Yesterday I posted a poster from what I thought was Turkish Star Wars. But Simon pointed out that it was actually from Starcrash:
Starcrash (original Italian title Scontri stellari oltre la terza dimensione, literally "stellar clashes beyond the third dimension") is an Italian 1979 science fiction film, which was also released under the English title of The Adventures of Stella Star (in the US). The screenplay was written by Luigi Cozzi (pen name Lewis Coates)[1] and Nat Wachsberger, and Cozzi also directed the film. The cast included Marjoe Gortner, Caroline Munro, Robert Tessier, Christopher Plummer, and David Hasselhoff.[2] The film score is by Oscar winning composer John Barry ("Midnight Cowboy", "Goldfinger", "Somewhere in Time", "Dances with Wolves").
The trailer is absolutely fantastic and in addition to lightsabers and bikini babes (including Caroline Munro from one of the Sinbad movies), seems to feature Ray Harryhausen's Talos from Jason and the Argonauts.

You can buy posters (and promotional photos of Munro) at eBay, and the DVD at Amazon.

My friend Jenners writes the best blog called Life With a Little One And More. Erma Bombeck's got nothin' on Jenners. She chronicles not only the life of a mother of a little boy, the hilarious home life with Mr. Jenners (not his real name), and all things zany. My very favorite post so far was the one where she tried to decipher the icons on the badges she earned as a power-girl-scout-er. Go ahead and read it. I guarantee that you will be peeing your pants at the ridiculousity. And I promise you will want to follow her for more fun and games. Or at least to find out what other soul-baring tidbits she wrote in her diary circa 7th grade.

Jenners also writes a blog about her love of reading and recommends some awesome books. She is a prolific reader, that Jenners. I stand in awe of her ability to devour the printed word.

Just the other day on her blog Jenners posted about the people who would play her in the movie of her life. What fun! I thought. She always has the most fun of anyone I know. So I hopped onto MyHeritage.com and found some fun little techno-tricks. The first one is who my celebrity look-alikes would be.

I have to say that I really didn't know all the people that were chosen as a spot-on match for my face, but I am not that disappointed. I hope that Claire Forlani is someone decent. I remember how creepy Lara Flynn Boyle could be in Twin Peaks. And I think that Daniela Pestova is a swimsuit model {yea, me!} or she could be a porn star {although SI's swimsuit issue, which is NOT welcome in our house - per the Bee Whisperer - is akin to porn.}

I always knew in my heart that I was royalty. Now I know that my bone structure has the Queen Mum written all over it. {Oh, to be in my 20s and single. And living in London. And somehow related to the Queen, however distant. Because I wouldn't get the chance to wow the Prince without those things going for me.}

And Christy Turlington was one hot model in the late, great 80s. I am tickled to have the validation that I always knew in my heart {and truthfully, so is the Bee Whisperer who I am sure carried some sort of torch for her - but didn't they all back then?}. Now I know who will play me in the movie of my life...

But Richard Gere?

Really?!?

I mean, he is a fine actor, and a damn hot one to boot. But I was a bit shocked to find out that bit of news. But more importantly, did you know that I have Richard Gere's nose? And he makes a damn fine woman {or else my testosterone level is running a mite too high!}

Rob Bricken is running a Best/Worst Nerdy Birthday Stories contest at Topless Robot, which reminded me of one of my favorite birthday parties - - seeing Metalstorm: The Destruction of Jared-Syn with a bunch of friends.

(Turkish poster)

IMDB
offers this description:
A seeker named Dogen rescues Dhyana [Kelly Preston] after her father is murdered by the evil Jared-Syn. To avenge her father's death, Dogen must find Jared-Syn's hideout in the mysterious "Lost City", but the only person who knows where it is an aging, burned-out seeker named Rhodes. Along the way, they will need to do battle against the hunter Baal and his Cyclopean minions for engaging Jared-Syn in a final encounter.
It featured impressive laser effects:

Richard Moll:

People who were not Sand People:

And lots of stuff sticking out of the screen to take full advantage of the sophisticated 3-D technology:

Pretty awesome

I finally got to see Star Trek last night, and give it an enthusiastic thumbs up. I thoroughly enjoyed the Star Wars-ification of the classic series. Let's see,

1. Farm boy goes into space,
2. never met his dad,
3. lusts for the starring woman only to find out she's interested in someone else,
4. and lands on a hostile world without means of leaving, and is rescued by a wizened old sage who essentially knows magic.

Am I missing any other glaring similarities?

5. Oh, the plot is the heroes have to destroy a gigantic planet-destroying spaceship and they do so first by going onto the ship and escaping it, and then launching a weapon from close range.

But aside from the terrible looking ice monsters which really should have been edited out, possibly the silliest interior design of a spaceship ever, and minor quibbles with the plot, Star Trek was a terrific movie. I'm so glad I managed to avoid knowing in advance much more than it involved Spock and time travel.

The future cop was cool, too:

This is Akiko Yano and a dolphin on the cover of her album from 1977 called "Iroha Ni Konpeitou." You can see the track listing here or buy a copy from Amazon Japan. There's lots of Akiko Yano videos at YouTube, but I didn't spot any that involved dolphin wrestling. Via this Cheesy Vinyl Flickr gallery.

And this isn't the only bizarre cover featuring a dolphin that I saw today. I present Robert Merle's "Day of the Dolphin"

The book is apparently a satire about a dolphin trained to sabotage a ship transporting the president of the US. Even better, it was a movie:

I couldn't find a video clip, but here's a Simpsons parody inspired by the film's name:

I found one copy of the book with this cover at eBay. There's several original Day of the Dolphin posters on sale for under $30 at Movieposters.com. And the dvd is $6.50 at Amazon.
